about
Max Kaplan & The Magics’ “Loving, I’m Leaving” is molded from southern soul classics of the 60s and 70s to convey the weight of breaking hearts. Kaplan cites the Al Green’s stonewall take on the groundbreaking Bee Gees hit “How Can You Mend a Broken Heart” as a primary influence using a bright chord progression and lustrous vocal melodies. The Memphis-style band of polished musicians and tight horn stabs helps bring the intense feeling of fleeting love to the forefront. The track is Kaplan’s second single on Color Red and part of an ongoing series of music to be released throughout 2022.
lyrics
Don’t be fooled, I’m Not Loving I’m Leaving
Ain’t it cruel, the way that you’re feeling?
By meeting you I am cold,
make you stay and that’s rude
people say, hold on to let go,
and I say, don’t be fooled
Love is a treacherous thing,
if you’re not careful
Make you believe it’s the real thing,
you know I wouldn’t dare to,
I’ve got to hold on,
I’m not Loving, I’m Leaving
Don’t be fooled, I’m not loving Im learning
Ain’t it cruel, the way that you’re hurting?
I’m not quite old enough to know,
just what happens, when you let them,
love you the way that they do,
but i’ll say,
don’t be fooled
These shadows on my wall,
tell a different story,
these tales of my past,
lord they unveil me,
i want you to listen to me,
when i say,
don’t be fooled,
don’t be fooled.
